The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society Newsletter
November 14, 2015
LSSDS Meeting for November 14: The Lone Star State Dulcimer Society will meet on November 14 at the First Christian Church, 114 Grauwyler Road in Irving, Texas. Start time will be 1:00 for beginning workshops. The mountain dulcimer will be led by Karl Neumann. We'll try to go over some of the tunes we've been practicing, but will also try to play some Christmas tunes or other songs of the season. It would be great if everyone could bring a tune or two with some extra tab to share. We'll see how many tunes we can get through. Hammer Dulcimer folks will be doing our usual stuff, learning, jamming, playing, having fun in general. Intermediate workshop following Pot Luck and business meeting.
LSSDS MEETINGS -JANUARY 2015 - DECEMBER 2015
All meetings will be held at the First Christian Church (FCC) of Irving, located at 114 W. Grauwyler Road. Grauwyler is just south of Airport Freeway and the church is just east of O’Connor Road. This is a schedule that lists the tentative dates and times of the monthly LSSDS meetings through December 2015. They are listed as tentative because we may need to be flexible should a church activity conflict with our meeting. This schedule/map will be posted at www.lssds.com. Any changes in meeting times or dates will be posted on lssds.com asap. Any questions, give me (Joe) a call at 972-986-6371 or send me an e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org .
MEETING DATES, AND TIMES:
November 14, 2015: FCC 1:00 PM
December 2015: NO MEETING
Officer Elections Were Held At The September Meeting: Officers were re-elected at the September Meeting. The same list was sentenced to another year.
Hammered Dulcimer Possibility: I am Nancy Willoughby, director of Lawton Pro Musica in Lawton, Oklahoma. We are a community chamber choir and I am very interested in doing the Dalglish “Star in the East” on our December 5 concert. Have you or any of your members played this piece? It is a wonderful piece, but the dulcimer part is essential! We would of course be willing to pay an honorarium and mileage if you know of someone who could do it. Thank you for your consideration. Contact Nancy Willoughby by calling 580-284-1272 or by email at: email@example.com Nancywill97@gmail.com
Photo Disc for our 35th Festival: Jen Turner (with her degree in computer wizardry) has agreed to put together a photo disc for our 35th Annual Lone Star State Dulcimer Festival. If you have pics you’d like to share from our past 34 years send them to Jen at: firstname.lastname@example.org. Look through your old photos for some from our early years. We’d like as many as we can get to chronical our journey.
Mountain Dulcimer Workshops Coming to Dallas Area: Lloyd Wright and Steven Seifert are planning to come to the DFW area in January for three days of mountain dulcimer workshops. I don’t have all the details right now but they should be available at the November meeting. They are trying to set up a location for the workshops and there is talk of an evening concert. I’ll give more details in November but in the meantime maybe we could all be thinking of a place to hold these workshops.
New Festival: Just received a note from Steve Heiser saying they are starting a new event in Huntsville, Texas January 1-3 2016. This event replaces the gone, but not forgotten Dulcimer Retreat, which was also held in Huntsville the first weekend in January. I have attached the pdf and word files that Steve sent, which contain more info. If you have questions, you can contact Steve at 281-491-3190 or email@example.com
